Alejandro Elias Perea is a Chicano artist working to understand the way borderlands of two cultures inform art-making through the mediums of video, ceramics, and writing. His work unravels arbitrary binaries such as light and darkness, material and nonmaterial, ephemerality and empiricism. He cultivates a singular artistic voice with his art that is loud enough to be heard without having to shout. Addressing issues such as fatherlessness, death drive, lost ancestral timelines, and the decolonized imaginary, Alejandro’s work seeks to open physical and psychic spaces for freedom, contemplation, and action through art creation. A candidate for a double Masters in Visual and Critical Studies and Fine Arts, Alejandro intends to remain active in the San Francisco arts community after his graduation in 2021.
